How much more you pay in a year

👉 These are averages: your insurer sends you your 2027 premium by the end of October. With that letter in hand, the comparison below tells you whether it pays to stay.

What to do by 30 November

  1. Read your insurer's letter. By the end of October every insurer announces the 2027 premium. Check the deductible and model you have today.
  2. Compare on priminfo.ch. It is the official, free federal calculator: enter your municipality, age, deductible and model and sort insurers from the cheapest.
  3. Review model and deductible. Family doctor, health network (HMO) or telemedicine models cost less than the standard one. For the deductible, the break-even point is explained in this article and you can work it out with your own premiums in the free calculator.
  4. If you switch, cancel in time. Your cancellation must reach your insurer by 30 November: a registered letter sent a few days earlier is safest. Then sign up with the new insurer, which cannot refuse you for basic insurance.

The deadlines

ByWhat
31 October 2026Insurers announce the 2027 premiums
30 November 2026Change insurer or model for basic insurance; move to a lower deductible
31 December 2026Move to a higher deductible
1 January 2027New premiums and choices apply

3 mistakes to avoid

  1. Cancelling supplementary insurance without a new one. Supplementary cover follows different rules and the new insurer may ask for a health questionnaire: keep it until the alternative is confirmed.
  2. Looking only at the premium. A low premium with a high deductible only pays off if you rarely see a doctor and have savings for unexpected costs.
  3. Posting the cancellation on 30 November. What counts is the day it arrives, not the day you send it.

If your income is low, ask your canton for an individual premium reduction: every canton has its own rules and forms.
